Foundation for cricket stadium only after JKCA investigations: Farooq | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 7 : Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy and president Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) Farooq Abdullah today said the foundation for cricket stadium would be laid only after the completion of ongoing investigations into an alleged embezzlement of funds in the cricket body. 'We want to make things clear and expose the culprits,' Dr Farooq told reporters at a press conference here this afternoon. The JKCA president said, 'unless the investigations do not reach to the conclusion, no foundation will be laid for cricket stadium at the proposed site.' Dr Farooq had earlier announced March 18 as scheduled date for laying foundation of a cricket stadium of international level at Bajalta on city outskirts. 'We want to know how the funds were misused and who actually did it,?' he said. The JKCA chief added that police is investigating the matter and auditors are on job. 'We had also written to the Board for Cricket Control in India (BCCI) to appoint their auditors but they wanted to conduct independent investigations of JKCA accounts,' he added. An amount of 15 crores has allegedly been embezzled in the cricket body by the then treasurer Ahsan Mirza with assistance of then general secretary Saleem Khan, who was immediately sacked from the association. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was also demanding action against Dr Farooq Abdullah being a president of the JKCA on the pattern of Suresh Kalamdi's involvement in CommonWealth Games Scam. |
