JPVM hails holding tourism festival from April 13

Jammu, Apr 7: Jammu Paryatan Vikas Mandal (JPVM), an apex body of 22 organisations related with tourism and pilgrimage trades and some other stakeholders in same has hailed the holding of 3-day Jammu Tourism Festival on April 13, 14 and 15, synchronizing with Baisakhi festival.
The tourism festival, as an annual feature, is being organised by the J&K Tourism Department with active cooperation and involvement of private stake holders in tourism, including trade organizations.
Addressing a meeting of the constituents of JPVM, its chairman Ravi Mahajan appealed to all of them to fully cooperate and take effective steps to make the festival a grand success, which is aimed at promoting tourism, pilgrimage and heritage of Jammu region, to the ultimate benefit of providing boost to the economy of the region. The meeting assured the tourism department and other concerned authorities of their fullest participation in the programmes of the festival, as per the previous tradition.
Ravi Mahajan informed the meeting that on April 13, border tourism festival will be held at Suchetgarh border post. This is aimed at promoting border tourism as well as fostering friendship between India and Pakistan. He hoped that in due course of time Suchetgarh-Sialkote border will be opened for trade and travel by the peoples of the two nations. This will boost the economy of Jammu as well as foster understanding between the two peoples and strengthen secularism in the country.
On April 14, the festival will be celebrated simultaneously at Mansar and Surinsar lake sites, in which cultural programmes and wrestling matches will be the main attractions. Similarly an event will be held at Akhnoor, to showcase the Buddhist pilgrimage site of Ambaran and heritage site of Jeo-Pota, both on the Chenab bank, as well as other historical places in and around the town.
Ravi Mahajan appealed to the member units to provide all the facilities to the people desirous of visiting the places of festival to participate in large numbers. They should extend special discounts to the prospective visitors to the places of festival.
Those who participated the meeting included Kuldeep Wahi President, Inderjeet Khajuria Gen. Secy., Davinder Chaudhary President Taxi Operators union, Ashaq Hussain President Tallab Khatikan and Pawan Gupta Gen.Secy All Jammu Hotels and Lodges Association and Mahesh Padha president Tourist Trade Employees Federation.
