Inter-zone sports meet of J&K Police from April 9 | 1800 athletes to compete in 12 events | | Early Times Report
Jammu , Apr 7: A record 1800 athletes, including 400 women shall compete in 12 different events of annual inter-zone sports meet of Jammu and Kashmir Police starting at different venues, here from April nine. The four days event shall be declared open in a colourful function to be held at 5 pm amidst march past by the contingents form six participating zones at Police Parade and Advance Trainings Gulshan Ground, here. This was disclosed by chairman of the organizing committee, Director General of Police, Kuldeep Khoda in a press conference held here today. Besides regular events, competition for Gazetted Officers (GOs) is also being organized in table tennis, lawn tennis, badminton and shooting. For successful conduct of the mega event, wherein police personnel from all over the state are participating, different committees have been set up under the supervision of Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Armed and Law and Order, K Rajendra Kumar. Divided into six different zones of Armed, INTELSECT (CID, Telecom, Crime, Traffic, Security, SSG, Railways), SDRF (CD, HGDs), Jammu Zone, Kashmir Zone and Training, these 1800 participating athletes shall be competing in different team and individual events. As many as nine events of basketball, volleyball, tug-or-war, football, kabaddi and boxing, wrestling, weightlifting, football, archery and kho-kho shall take place at Gulshan ground while handball and hockey shall be conducted at DPL and University of Jammu grounds respectively. The shooting events shall take place at CTC Sunjwan while athletes shall be displaying their skills at University of Jammu tracks. "The competition shall be conducted following the laid down rules of the All India Police Sports Control Board on knock-out basis," informed the DGP. Sports Policy not in sight The much talked about sports policy of the Jammu and Kashmir Police is yet to see light of the day. Despite promises by none other than the DGP, Kuldeep Khoda the important document of the police is nowhere in sight. When asked in this regard, DGP said, "We have taken the initiative by way of grace marks to the sportspersons at the time of recruitments. Sportspersons absorbed as SPOs are also being given preference in selections as constables in different wings of the police." However, the DGP was unable to explain as to how much it will take the J&K Police to come out with a comprehensive sports policy. Police hockey team in final On the sidelines of the press conference, the DGP disclosed that police is doing well in traditional games. "Our hockey team has reached the final of ongoing 6th All India Municipal Hockey Tournament at Hushanabad in Madhya Pradesh. Before making it to the final, J&K Police defeated EME Jalandhar and SAI Academy Bhopal. |
