| Farooq again appoints controversial younger brother as NC additional general secy | | | Early Times Report
jammu, April 7: Keeping with traditions of the party Farooq Abdullah while retaining the presidency of his party national conference , nominated his chief minister son Omar Abdullah as working president of the party.
Surprisingly Farooq , who is minister of renewable energy in new Delhi, on Saturday even re-appointed his younger brother sheikh Mustafa Kamal again as additional general secretary of the party. Kamal, who MLA from Hazratbal constituency , is known for his "anti-India stance." The ailing cousin of Farooq Abdullah Sheikh Nazir would continue to hold the post of general secretary of NC besides controlling the kitty of the party. Nazir is equally known for "anti-India actions" in the past.
Farooq sacked his younger brother Mustafa Kamal as additional general secretary and chief spokesman of the party when spoke against Rahul Gandhi , AICC general secretary and army during winter last. Both Farooq Abdullah and CM Omar Abdullah felt humiliated when Kamal told media that Rahul Gandhi has no role in Jammu and Kashmir and even blamed army for serial bomb blasts last year after Omar Abdullah raised the issue of abrogation of Armed forces special powers Act.
Interestingly, Farooq's general secretary cousin Sheikh Nazir is subjected to dialysis twice a week for last several years and is confined to bed at his home in Srinagar. Nazir , who calls him advocate , hardly visit New Delhi for he feels that sheikh Abdullah was cheated by Nehrus in 1953.
Farooq Abdullah, according to party insiders, was forced to revert the post of additional secretary to his controversial younger brother Kamal. "Mustafa made started making statements which could have strained the relations of alliance partners; NC-congress in the state. This forced Farooq to revert the post to Mustafa Kamal," the party insider said.
The main opposition regional party PDP is different from the national conference when the distribution of the party posts comes. The Mutfis too distribute the high post of presidency among family members. The post oscillates between father Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and daughter Mehbooba Mufti as and when required. However, PDP has nominated several general secretaries for the party from outside their family members.
Both the regional parties have no tradition of giving the posts of president and general secretary outside their family members. |
