Do more for LOC travel, trade: JKDF appeals to India, Pakistan | | | early times report Jammu, Apr 8: On the eve of the seventh anniversary of the opening of the Line of Control (LOC) to allow divided families to visit both sides of Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Forum (JKDF) Chief Pandit Bhushan Bazaz expressed his anguish over the lack of progress in the biggest ever confidence building measure (CBM), which was taken due to the efforts of Hurruyat Leadership. While addressing 7th convention of Pakistan India Peoples Forum for peace and Democracy here today Bazaz expressed his concern over the lack of progress in connection with this CBM and cautioned leadership of India and Pakistan against the pitfalls that could result from it. He maintained that it was Hurriyat Leaders Like Mirwaiz Umar Farooq that the LOC was opened for trade and travel. He, however, observed that much more was needed to be done. "The movement should not be confined only to the divided families and all facilities should be provided for trade," he said. "The bus service across the LOC was started after 58 years by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi from Srinagar on April 7, 2005, to facilitate the coming together of divided families, and with a vision to turn it into a regular travel facility to lift the decades-long siege around the state," Bazaz observed it was sad that India and Pakistan has failed to implement the decisions taken by their foreign ministers more than a year ago to carry forward the original vision of bringing the two sides closer through trade, travel, joint ventures and cultural exchanges. "There was no reason as to why the two governments should take so long to implement the decision to open more routes in the Jammu, Kashmir And Ladakh regions, increase bus frequency" He added |
