Ajit Singh of J&K bags second place | Himanshu of Haryana wins chess tourney | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 8: International Master (IM), Himanshu Sharma clinched the winners' trophy securing highest seven points in the Ramit Memorial All India open Fide Rating Chess Tournament that concluded at Patnitop in district Udhampur today. Second place went to Ajit Singh of J&K while Nandan Bahugarian, Atul Kumar Gupta and Sumit Grover of J&K remained joint third. Two players from Kashmir region Khalid Amin and Rather Adil Ashraf also played well and got in the prize list .Adil Ashraf got the prize of best unrated player of the tournament while Khalid Amin finished seventh. Total cash prize of Rs 85,000 was distributed among the winners. Harshita Guddanti of Andhra Pradesh got best woman prize. Shivinder Chib of J&K bagged best J&K player category prize while young Akriti Kotwal of the state got best under-15 year category prize. Vikhyat Mehta and Vilakshan Mehta got best under-15 and best under-10 category prizes respectively. This tournament was organized by All J&K Chess Association to promote the game in the state and give local players a chance to play with the professionals and raise their level of game. Prizes were distributed among the winners by Ravinder Kumar, father of Ramit in whose memory the tournament was held along with secretary of the Association, Baldev Raj. Pranesh Yadav of Bangalore was the chief arbiter of the tournament. Meanwhile, the Association also honoured Arushi Kotwal of J&K state who has won gold medal in recently held Asian Schools Chess Championship in under-seven year category. |
