Did Dr. Farooq Abdullah actually know Haji Yusuf as a PDP worker? | | | early times report Jammu, Apr 8: Former State Chief Minister and union minister for renewable energy, Dr. Farooq Abdullah has made a startling revelation about Haji Yusuf, the NC worker who died last year hours after being summoned to the Gupkar Road Residency of the present State Chief Minister. Talking to media persons Dr. Farooq has said he had come into contact with Haji Yusuf only in 2008 when Yusuf promised him support of 18 PDP MLAs to form the government after the 2008 state assembly elections. Dr. Farooq said categorically he did not know Haji Yusuf till then. It is fair to trust that Dr. Farooq has spoken the truth, but in order to allow his 'truth' to stand the scrutiny of trial, the NC supremo will have to do better. Terming Dr. Farooq Abdullah's statement as misleading and ridiculous' the PDP president Mehbooba Mufti has said Dr. Farooq is trying to carry his problems to the door of his political rivals. "Such tactics only prove the NC has no defence to offer and they are trying to confuse the public opinion by saying Haji Yusuf was a PDP worker. If he was our worker what was he doing at the CM's residence on that fateful day," said another PDP leader while asked to comment on NC's surpremo's statement. There are pictures of Haji Yusuf going around in with Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. There are at least half a dozen pictures of the deceased with the NC's top brass at different places and during different NC party rallies and functions. Dr. Farooq Abdullah said he turned down the offer of Haji Yusuf's support of 18 PDP MLAs immediately after it was made. "I told him categorically that I did not believe in Aya Ram Gaya Ram politics and will not allow it in the future as well." These words of Dr. Farooq ironically leave everything else open to doubt and suspicion. If Haji Yusuf had met the NC supremo just to make the offer of PDP MLAs support and had immediately been turned down, what had he been doing with the NC top brass during many, many days he was photographed with them, seen with them and widely believed to be close to them? The NC supremo has also said that Haji Yusuf was actually a PDP worker and not an NC worker as is widely believed. If Haji Yusuf was a PDP worker then what was he doing offering support of 18 PDP MLAs to the NC? Did he actually have the political reach to herd 18 PDP MLAs just like that? Nobody, not even Dr. Farooq Abdullah has so far denied that Haji Yusuf had taken huge sums of money from ministerial aspirants to get them berths as legislators and ministers. Would anybody pay a PDP worker who had been shown the door by the NC supremo to become a minister or a legislator in NC led coalition government? It is hoped the next time the NC supremo talks about this issue he improves upon his highly punctured explanation.
