Kamaal re-appointment stuns Congress | Farooq mends fences with his brother | | early times report Jammu, Apr 8: In a development that may have far reaching consequences on the ruling coalition, the National Conference President, Dr Farooq Abdullah appointed his younger brother Dr Mustafa Kamal as additional general secretary of the party. Kamal had been removed from the posts he held in the party early this year for his tirade against the Congress and the government of India. "Kamal Sahib has been appointed as party's Additional General Secretary and he will play an important role in helping the party to flourish, beside will help the party to move successfully forward with its activities," he said. All the politics that took place in Jammu and Kashmir during last 24 hours indicates the change of political wave in Delhi witnessed after UP election debacle where the magic of Youth Congress icon Rahul Gandhi failed to yield any result for the Congress and the party failed to cross the 30 seat marks in 406 seat UP Assembly. Only a few months back the State Congress was involved in hectic lobbyism for change of guard and sought rotational Chief Ministership. Now the political situation in state as well as in center has entirely changed and the yesterday's underdog in UPA government, National Conference leadership has started playing its cards well. The re- induction of Mustafa Kamal as Additional General secretary of the party is perceived as a strong message to the Congress which has surprisingly chosen not to react to the development. Kamal who came into lime light last year for his comment on Rahul Gandhi wherein he (Kamal) said that Rahul Gandhi had no role in Jammu and Kashmir politics and even blamed army for serial bomb blasts after Omar Abdullah raised the issue of abrogation of Armed forces special powers Act. Kamal suspected army's role in series of blasts that rocked Srinagar city in the month of October last year. He accused army of vitiating the atmosphere in Kashmir particularly after the Omar sought revocation of AFSPA. Reacting to his removal, Kamal had accused the Abdullahs for his ouster. However Chief Minister Omar Abdullah distances himself from the controversy by putting the ball into the court of his father. "He's my uncle and I have the greatest of respect for him. This matter is between him and my father, no reason to drag me in to it." Omar tweeted on 22-11-2011. Kamal was angry on Omar's written statement to the press about his ouster. Angry Kamal said in his interview on 21-11-2011 that "Omar is not sure about himself, he has no footing on ground and he (Omar) feels insecure from my popularity." "I have good relationship with my brother earlier, but now my heart will never meet with Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah in same manner as it was earlier." What happens in the coming days remains to be seen.
