early times report JAMMU, Apr 8: A sizeable stock of expired medicines and injections were today seized by police in pediatrics ward of SMGS hospital here. The matter was brought to the notice of police after one Puran Chand, son of Amar Nath of Mawa, Akhnoor, reported that her daughter, who was undergoing treatment in the pediatrics ward, had been administered an injection which had surpassed its expiry date. In his complaint, he also alleged that he had earlier contacted CMO in this regard but he had put the injection phial in his pocket. The injection had expired on June 21, 2011, he alleged. Acting on his complaint, police swung into action and seized a large quantity of expired medicines, including injections and glucose, from the pediatrics ward, according to police sources. The phials of expired injections were also seized from the dustbin. After police action, attendant of other patients also lodged complaint against the staff and doctors on duty. Police had also seized the store containing medicines, glucose bottles and injections for further investigation, the sources added. It is astonishing to note that the injections, which had surpassed expiry date, were being administered to the children of two years, or below, putting their lives in danger. When contacted, acting GMC principal , Dr Aniece Choudhary said he had not received any complaint from any attendant in this regard. |
