Security beefed up for Chidambaram's scheduled visit to J&K | | | early times report JAMMU, Apr 9: In Jammu and Kashmir, security has been stepped up in the hilly Katra town of Reasi district ahead of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram's scheduled visit to the revered Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Cave Shrine tomorrow. Tight security arrangements have been put in place in Katra town, the base camp of Cave Shrine, en route the Bhawan. Additional police and para-military personnel have been deployed along the 13-kilometre long track. Besides, tight security, checking of hotels and lodges has also been intensified. Hoteliers have been asked to remain alert and maintain vigil on visitors. The Home Minister who is visiting the state after a gap of almost nine months, will be on a day-long visit to the shrine to pay obeisance. The Home Minister is also expected to meet J&K Governor, N. N Vohra and Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to study the emerging contours of security scenario in the state. Chidambaram is also expected to review the security scenario with regard to the coming summer besides discussing Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) and dismantling of more bunkers and reducing footprint of security forces in the state. |
