Special package for affected farming community demanded | | | early times report JAMMU, Apr 9: All J&K Kissan Union (AJKKU) today demanded a special package of Rs 500.00 cr6resto provide compensation to the farmers of Jammu region, whose Rabi crops have suffered serious damaged due to recent long dry spell in rain fed areas and not releasing water in irrigation canals timely. Kissan Union Organized a Dharna under the Leadership of Chairman, AJKKU and Former Legislative Ashok Kumar Sharma at Vijaypur in Samba District today. Addressing the Dharna Sharma urged for providing six months free ration to the effected farmers, supply of free seeds and fertilizers for ensuring Kharif Crops and provisions bringing crop and cattle insurance in full to offset the losses, suffered by the farmers' due to crops failure and perishing of livestock for which the premium must be born by the government. The Kissan Union also forcefully pleaded provision for separate budget for agriculture and its allied sector on the pattern of "Railway Budget" and declaring agriculture as industry and providing incentives there under. Speakers also announced that AJKKU will organized such Dharna's at various places in Jammu region in coming weeks to press for acceptance of various demands of the farmers. A memorandum of the farmer's demands was presented to Tehsildar Agrarian Vijaypur for submitting it to the State Governor, Chief Minister, Ministers of Agriculture and Revenue and the Chief Secretary. Prominent among those who set on Dharna and spoke on the occasion where Yashpal Sharma, Joginger Lal Bhagat, Sham Lal, Vinod Sawney, R.C Raju, Vljay Choudhary, Satish Dutta, Capt Madan Lal, Majinder Singh and Raghubir Sharma. |
