National meet on 'Understanding Himalayan Ecology' organized

JAMMU, Apr 9: National level conference on the topic 'Climate Change: Understanding -The Himalayan Ecology' organized by Institute of Himalayan Glaciology, University of Jammu with Liberty Institute, New Delhi in partnership withv Friedrich-Naumann-Stiftung für die Freiheit, New Delhi commenced at Seminar Hall of Department of Computer Science, University of Jammu.
Speaking at the Inaugural function, Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar said that to preserve nature, model of development need to be redesigned. Prof Ishar complimented the organizers for taking the issue of vital Importance to mankind and further said that conferences on the themes of climate changes educate and up-date the knowledge of society at large. Prof R.K Ganjoo, Director, Institute of Himalayan Glaciology, University of Jammu in his welcome address said that the issue of climate change is a subject of discussion all around and the Institute of Himalayan Glaciology has been actively participating at various forums with in and out of India to project their contributions in this field of science. During the meet technical Sessions were held at the Seminar Hall of Department of Environmental Sciences, University of Jammu on the themes Himalayan Glaciers and water sources - effect of climate change onfuture management, Impact of change in snow/rainfall pattern on Himalayan ecology, Impact of seismology and other natural mountain hazard process in Himalayan ecology, Developmental demands and land use changes in Himalaya. The programme was conducted by Vijay Atri while Barun Mitra, Director, Liberty Institute, Delhi presented vote of thanks. Among others Prof S K Khosa, Dean, Faculty Of Sciences, Prof Rajkumar Rampal, Head, Department of Environmental Sciences, Prof A k Raina, Prof Manoj Dhar.
, Controller of Examinations, eminent members of Civil Society, Faculty members, Scholars, Students were also present on the occasion
