| Militancy has declined in J-K, says CRPF DG | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Apr 9: The Director General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Anirudh Uppal, on Monday said there was a decline in militant activities in Jammu and Kashmir, but the problem is yet to be completely resolved.
Uppal said the CRPF battalions were on high alert to avoid reoccurrence of militant activities in the region.
"Every year Jammu and Kashmir has been witnessing a decrease in militancy but this does not mean that it has ended completely. Incidents like encounters or bomb blasts have not been completely wiped from the region," said Uppal.
"The positive thing is that every year, every month there is a decrease in terrorist incidents. We will have to be vigilant to stop militant activities. We are vigilant to stop such activities," he added.
Uppal said that the CRPF was well prepared to tackle all kinds of insurgencies, which have been a threat to the nation for decades.
"The CRPF battalions have been posted in Jammu and Kashmir to fight against terrorism, in northeast we are fighting against insurgency and in left wing extremist areas we are fighting against the Maoists.
These are the biggest threats to the nation," he added.
Talking about the training of CRPF personnel posted in Maoist-affected areas, Uppal said that they were well prepared to tackle any kind of violent activities initiated by the ultras.
"The CRPF personnel are trained properly and then sent to Maoist affected areas so that they are well prepared to fight against the ultras," he added.
Union Home Secretary R.K. Singh had earlier this month said the Naxals want to undermine the democratic system in India and bring in Communist rule similar to that of China.
Singh said the Naxals did not believe in dialogue and there was need to combat it.
Despite strong initiatives taken by the Centre, the Maoist insurgency has gripped nearly one-third of the country, spreading into the interiors of 20 states of the country. |
