| Penalty of Rs 40,000 imposed on tax evader at Lakhanpur | | | Early Times Report
Kathua, Apr 9: Continuing its drive against attempts to evade the sales tax on various consumables items, the Sales Tax Department Lakhanpur today imposed penalty of Rs 40,000 against a tax evader who tried to smuggle mobile handsets today.
Informed sources said that the penalty was imposed upon oneVikas Kumar who was making a bid to evade tax on mobile hand sets he brought from Punjab. "His motorcycle bearing registration number PB06J/6142 was also seized besides 36 mobile hand sets, sources added. They added that the face value of the mobile hand sets is stated to be Rs 50,000 while department imposed penalty about equal to face value to discourage the similar attempts to evade the tax by the tax evaders. |
