Jammu, Kashmiri leadership and Zardari's Delhi visit
Autonomists And Integrationists -- II
4/9/2012 11:43:04 PM
Neha
JAMMU, Apr 9: Just at a time when NC leaders Farooq Abdullah, Omar Abdullah and Abdul Rahim Rather were expressing their views on the significance of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari's Delhi visit and underlining the need for Kashmir-specific confidence building measures, including easing of restrictions on cross-LoC trade, a parallel development was taking place at the Press club of Jammu. The abandoned integrationists and victims of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism and Kashmiri communalists and fanatics were bemoaning the failure of the custodians of the Indian state to protect the integrationists. These victims included the displaced Kashmiri Hindus, and the displaced Hindus from Pakistan-occupied-Jammu and Kashmir (POJK) and several original inhabitants of Jammu.
The integrationists and victims of terror and communal politics had gathered at the Press Club to discuss the main events which took place in Jammu and Kashmir between October 22 and 25, 1947 and the circumstances under which the state acceded to India. The seminar had been organized by Panun Kashmir of Ajay Chrungoo and two other organizations of POJK refugees - POJK Sangharsh Morcha (POJKSM) and Socialist Republican Volunteers Association (SRVA) -- and the objective was to document unknown historical facts about the invasion of the State in 1947 and tell the authorities that they should be made an equal partner in the talks on the future of Jammu and Kashmir.
Everyone who spoke during the seminar not only held Jawaharlal Nehru, Mahatma Gandhi, the Indian National Congress and the Government of India squarely responsible for complicating the otherwise very simple issue of the state's accession to India but also accused the custodians of the Indian State of adopting policies which pampered the undesirables and autonomists in Kashmir and rendered the integrationists or the nationalist constituency in the state ineffective and unreal for all practical purposes. In fact, all the speakers, without any exception, revealed not only the details of the Pakistani invasion on the state in 1947, but also asked "as to why did not the Government of India act even after the real invasion on the ground started on October 22, 1947?"
"The historical failure of the leadership of Congress party, (Mahatma) Gandhi, Nehru…was that they allowed (the) Muslim League and the British Government to use the states to undermine the integrity of India and sow the seeds of balkanization. Jammu and Kashmir State was the most crucial state and the bungling in its affairs has cost the nation heavily and jeopardized the entire security of the Northern Frontier of India. (Custodians of the) Indian State from the very beginning…left the Northern Frontiers of India undefended. Genocide of Hindus of Mirpur, Muzzaffarabad, Rajouri, Poonch and Kashmir Valley has been (one of the results) of this attitude as well as the perverted secular vision which the Indian leadership nourished from the Very beginning". This was one of the major refrains of the speakers. Yet another refrain of the speakers was that it was the Indian political leaders of the time, including Nehru, who "resisted the attempts of early accession of the state to India" and "accepted accession not till Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah asked him (Nehru) to do so" and it was this "dithering of Nehru that created the problem in Jammu and Kashmir". Yet another upshot of the speeches made by the various speakers was that "there can be no peace in the state until displaced and uprooted people…are taken into confidence and injustice suffered by them addressed and mitigated' and that "the problems of ethnic and religious cleansing and genocide of (the Hindus) have to be addressed sooner than later in order to forge a lasting peace in the state".
One more refrain of the disgusted-with-the-custodians-of-the-Indian State and victims of terrorism and deliberate neglect was that the "genocide of the Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir has not been recognized so far." "The game of genocide has been far more gruesome than the holocaust of Jews or Armenian Christians; what has befallen on the Hindus and Sikh of Jammu and Kashmir in 1947 and subsequently in 1989-1990 is the continuation of the same great, ruthless and murderous game", the speakers said and added that the "Indian leaders blundered or connived in this bloody endeavour primarily because they did not have the courage and grit to stand up to the genocidal war launched on Hindus living in Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir." That all the speakers in the seminar were very angry with those at the helm of affairs in New Delhi became evident they like one man said that the "attrition and abandonment of Hindus in Jammu and Kashmir is related to the mindset of criminal compromise with Kashmiri Muslim identity politics"; that "it is an expression of negation of secularism and the process is still continuing with impunity" and that "we have to put a halt to this continuous suicide otherwise India will perish as a nation."
It is indeed very said that those who stand and suffer for India in Jammu and Kashmir are being looked down upon by New Delhi and those who have been fighting against the Indian State and bloodying and convulsing the Indian political scene in Jammu and Kashmir on a daily basis and demanding separation under one pretext or the other and their supporters are being a very preferential treatment by the custodians of the Indian State. Such things can happen only in India. It's indeed a very sad reflection on those dealing with the sensitive Jammu and Kashmir. One thing, however, is very clear: New Delhi would finally suffer a defeat at the hands of the integrationists in the state as it suffered such a defeat in Jammu in 2008. (Concluded)
