Urges Govt to adapt 73rd, 74th constitutional amendments | Congress awakes | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 9: The war of nerves between Congress and the National Conference has been evoking interest for the past few days. Apparently responding to Dr Mustafa Kamaal's re-appointment as NC additional general secretary, the Congress today urged the NC to adapt the 73rd and 74th constitutional amendments ahead of forthcoming local body elections. These amendments seek strengthening Panchayats and local bodies. Pertinent to mention, Dr Mustafa Kamaal is known for his anti-Congress and anti-India stance. During his previous tenure as party spokesman, he issued statements against New Delhi, Rahul Gandhi and the Congress. The demand for adapting the amendments was made on Monday when the alliance partners met during the meeting of the coordination committee. The meeting was attended by Prof. Saifuddin Soz-MP, Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Minister Finance Abdul Rahim Rathar, former Deputy Chief Minister and Senior Congress leader Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Rural Development, Law, Justice & Parliamentary Affairs Ali Mohammad Sagar and Shri Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan-MLA at the state guest house. The meeting also discussed constitution of the State Vigilance Commission, the filling up of vacancies in the Back Ward Classes Commission and the Public Service Commission. The Committee desired that the State Vigilance Commission be constituted at the earliest. The committee also sought immediate update of electoral rolls. |
