132 Sikh devotees leave for Pakistan from Jammu | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 10 : A group of 132 Sikh devotees from this winter capital of the state has left for Pakistan to participate in a religious function and pay obeisance at historical Gurud waras on the occasion of Baisakhi. The devotees left for Attari station from here last evening to accompany other visitors coming from across the country to leave for Panja Sahib in Pakistan. Amid religious cha nts, the devotees expressed happiness over getting visa to travel to Pakistan for paying obeisance at about ten famous and historical Guru dwaras. "Sangat is enthusiastic to visit Pakistan but some of the devotees are dejected as their visa was rejected by the authorities," Shamsher Singh Chohalvi, in-charge of yatra told reporters. He said that the Government of India should take up this issue with Pakistan to increase quota of pilgrims. A total of 220 people had applied for the pilgrimage out of which 19 withdrew their names. "Of the 201 devotees, sixty were denied visa," the in-charge said adding that out of the remaining 141 devotees, who were given the visa, nine again dropped and finally 132 left for the pilgrimage. "The main function will be held at Panja Sahib while the Sangat will also perform darshans and pay obeisance at other famous Gurudwaras in Pakistan," Shamsher Singh added. |
