Take a shortcut to Jammu from Srinagar soon | | | Early Times Report Srinagar, Apr 10 : The summer and winter capitals of Jammu and Kashmir will get closer in the next three years. The national highways authority of India (NHAI) is learnt to have awarded contracts in March for four-laning of the J&K segment of the national highway under the ambitious north-south corridor project (NSCP). Once completed, the travel time for the 286-km stretch between the Pathankot border and Srinagar would become half. The NSCP contract intends to build a 4,076-km highway, mostly of six lanes, by 2016, which would connect road travellers from Kashmir to the southern tip, Kanyakumari, in just five days.Besides J&K, the corridor would pass through Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.It would be a point-to-point single corridor except at two stretches - Delhi and Agra and between two points in Karnataka. At these spots, it would be joined by the Golden Quadrilateral to complete the link. |
