District level enrolment drive held under SSA

JAMMU, Apr 10: A rally of government teachers of Jammu district was organized today under the aegis of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan at Govt. Model Middle School Satwari.
The enrolment rally which was the main part of Enrolment Drive-2012 was inaugurated by N. R. Dhingra, Chief Education Officer/District Chairman SSA who reiterated commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir education department towards improvement in quality education in government schools.
The rally was attended by near about 1500 masters, teachers and Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers of different zones of Jammu district.
The rally was an attempt by the teachers to increase roll of government schools with the active participation of community members. The rally, which was aimed to boost the enrolment drive in government schools and to publicize the achievements of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, decorated with coloured banners, placards and posters.
The pamphlets were also distributed to the people during rally.
Speaking on the occasion Chief Education Officer Jammu N. R. Dhingra said that government schools are playing a vital role to increase the literacy rate in the state and this journey is still on. He said that education is free in govt. schools for children for 6 to 14 years of age or up to class VIII under SSA and there are several efforts to enhance the quality education.
Dhingra appealed to the Community Members to participate in enrolment drive as community is an informal and active agency of education.
He said that Community Members, Panchayati Raj Institutions and Village Education Committees can play pivotal role for increasing enrolment and attendance, providing physical facilities, financing education and maintaining good atmosphere in government schools. He appealed the public to admit their wards in government schools.
Murawwat Hussain Shah, ZEO Satwari and various resource persons like Vijay Kumar Sharma, Varinder Kumar, Gopal Dass, N. A. Qurashi and Naryan Baru highlighted the achievements of SSA.
The rally was started from Model School Satwari and after covered a long distance of 5/6 kms, culminated at Shastri Nagar.
