Why should Patwaris be selected by BOPEE? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 10: The State government has announced that selections to the posts of Patwaris in the future would be made through the Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (BOPEE). BOPEE has so far been entrusted with the job of selecting candidates for various professional/ academic courses through holding competitive tests for these selections. The BOPEE holds an excellent record for holding these competitive tests throughout the State. So far there have been no complaints of favouritism or any political influence against the BOPEE whose authorities have been protecting their credibility effectively and efficiently. But, the decision to entrust the selections for the posts of Patwaris to BOPEE is fast becoming a topic of debate in the State. The State government has a state level recruitment board for all sub-ordinate government job selections known as the Services Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB). The SSRB is entrusted with all recruitments below the gazette posts the recruitments for gazette jobs are entrusted to the PSC. The SSRB is legally and officially the sole official recruiting agency for all the government jobs for non-gazetted assignments. The decision to bring in the BOPEE for any form of recruitment for government jobs by taking any the authority of the SSRB has put a big question mark on the credibility of the SSRB. Why should the State government suddenly decide out of the blue that the SSRB is not the right forum to be approached for recruitments to the posts of Patwaris? And, why has the decision to entrust only the recruitment of Patwaris been made for the BOPEE and not other such selections like the para medical and para veterinary staff which are normally made by the SSRB? The State government needs to address the rumours those are doing the rounds in public circles with respect to the decision pertaining to future selections for the posts of Patwaris. The decision also casts a serious cloud on the efficacy of the SSRB which has during the recent days come in for some severe criticism regarding the inordinate delays the SSRB has been causing in announcing selections to the various posts for which the selection processes have already been completed. The BOPEE is a highly respected institution and its own efficacy and promptness would be impeded once selections for government jobs are entrusted to it. But, first of all, the State government must state clearly why the exigency to have Patwaris selected by a board which is normally supposed to deal with competitive tests for professional/academic courses. |
