CB produces challan against K K Travels owner, IA employee in cheating case

early times report
JAMMU, Apr 10: The crime branch (CB) of police today produced challan in the court of municipal magistrate here against Jatinder Koul, proprietor of K K Travels, Gandhi Nagar, and Indian Airlines (IA) accounts assistant Gurpreet Singh Rehal in a cheating case.
The challan was produced under sections 420 and 120-B of RPC. While Koul, a ticketing agent, operates from Gandhi Nagar, Rehal owns a DDA flat at Madan Gir, New Delhi. He was at present living at Air India Colony, Vasant Vihar, New Delhi.
Koul is related to a self-styled Congress leader and also enjoys the patronage of another Congress leader, who had unsuccessfully contested municipal elections from Gandhi Nagar.
The matter of cheating came to fore after a written complaint was lodged by IA, Jammu, station manager Sanjeev Misri, with crime headquarters, alleging that two cheques bearing Nos 438188 and 438189 dated November 23, 2008, had gone untraced.
The cheques worth Rs 7,58,162 and Rs 2,032 had been issued in IA favour by Jatinder Koul.
These two cheques were said to have been deposited by Rehal with the SBI main branch at Hari Market. However, the amount was not credited to the IA account.
During the course of investigation, CB found out that since sufficient amount was not available in the Koul's account, he met Rehal, who was posted as accounts assistant in IA office at Jammu airport, and hatched a criminal conspiracy to misplace the cheques so that evidence was destroyed to conceal the facts.
The duo then allegedly misplaced the cheques to dupe the company. Keeping in view the facts/circumstances of the case and the documentary evidence collected by CB during the course of investigation, the case of cheating was fully established against the accused and challaned in the court.
Next date of hearing in the case has been fixed on May 15, 2012.
