Surankote town protests frequent burglaries

POONCH, Apr 10: Rise in theft cases in Surankote Tehsils of District Poonch forced the residents to come on streets today when they lodged a protest against the local administration for their inefficiency in bringing to book, those culprits who are responsible for frequent burglaries.
The protest of the locals led to disruption of vehicular traffic for about four hours.
The people were protesting last night's theft case in Surankote Tehsil.
A group of thieves struck and burgled six shops and decamped with items worth lakhs of rupees. This episode irked the local residents and today they came on the roads raising anti administration slogans. They alleged that for the last several months, there has been high increase in theft cases and majority of the burglaries could not be solved by police. The protestors also burnt tyres and raised blockades at various places in the town.
"Rise in theft cases in Surankote Tehsil and failure of local Police in nabbing the culprits is really a cause of concern for all locals" said, Mohd Irfan, a local businessman.
Mohd.Sharief, a retd Teacher and a businessman, said "Theft episodes are a regular phenomenon in Surankote town for the past some time. Police has failed to book those responsible for such cases" added further "suddenly increase in theft cases is out of our understanding". Additional SP Poonch Yougal Manhas, who immediately rushed to the spot and assured the protestors that additional security arrangements will be made in the town to nab the thieves. On his assurance the traffic resumed and shops were opened.
Talking to Early Times, ASP Yougal Manhas confirmed rise of theft cases in Surankote and said that the Police has arrested 7 youth of Surankote area. He also admitted that an involvement of some groups cannot be ruled out as Police is investigating into the matter seriously and hopeful to solve this matter early.
