JAMMU, Apr 11: Armed zone made a clean sweep in men's team events winning kabaddi, basketball, handball and volleyball finals in the ongoing inter-zone sports meet of Jammu and Kashmir Police at different venues, here today. With tomorrow being the last day of the four-day competitions, Armed zone is all set to retain the overall championship trophy on the basis of points earned by them in different team and individual events. However, the finals of two team events of hockey and tug-of-war are yet to be played. In these events too, Armed zone has made it to the title clash.
Earlier, in kabaddi final, Armed zone trounced Jammu zone by a margin of two points 39-37. Earlier, in the semifinals, Armed beat Training zone by 31 points while Jammu zone outplayed Intelsect by 27 points. In basketball, Armed zone defeated Training zone 59-57 in a neck to neck contest. Ct. Sakinder Singh (21) and Sahil Sharma (15) were top scorers from winners while Ct. Sumit Kumar (41) fought well from Training. Earlier, in semifinals, Training downed Intelsect 20-04 while Armed zone beat Kashmir zone 20-04 in a one-sided contest.
The handball final also won by Armed zone beating Jammu zone 24-12. However, the volleyball trophy went to Intelsect, who beat Jammu zone 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 19-25, 25-27) in the final. In the semifinals, Intelsect trounced Kashmir zone 3-2 (24-26, 25-15, 25-20, 21-25, 15-09) and Jammu beat Armed zone 3-1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.
