Skill development program concludes

EARLY TIMES REPORT
Kathua, 11 April, A three week long skill Oriented Programme on the theme "Art & Craft, Beverages & Food preservation" organized by centre of Women Studies of Government Degree College, Kathua in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture and Department of Handicraft was concluded today. 42 Girls and women in the age group of 15 to 40 yea-rs from the neighboring villages participated in the programme majority of them are below BPL and belonging to SC/ST category. They have learnt about how to do fabric paintings, tie and dye and phulkari embroidery and how to make stuffed toys, dolls, decoration pieces, pickles, jams, snakes, ketchups, squashes etc. They have also learnt how to make useful items from waste materials experts from Home Science Department of the college, Horticulture Department, Handicraft Department and local experts of different fields persuaded the participants and made an endeavor to teach them different skills. Anil Sharma, Chief Horticulture officer, Kathua was guest of Honour. He spoke on different schemes of his department meant to make women folk economically independent even while sitting at home. He appreciated the efforts of Centre of Women Studies for conducting such programmes and by bringing so many departments on single platform for such participants. Dr. Nater Singh Principal of the College in his presidential address urged the participants to derive maximum benefit from such programmes. The valedictory function was also graced by the officials of Horticulture Department, Handicraft Department, faculty members, NGOs, Girl boarders of the hostel, resource persons apart from participants. Earlier Dr. Sujata Slathia Director of the Centre welcomed the guests and participants and gave a resume of activities of this skill oriented programme. Dr. Sangeeta Convener of the Advisory Committee gave vote of thanks and programme was anchored by Ms. Madhavi Choudhary, a P.G. student of the college
