| Phunsog favours adoption of project approach for Dal conservation | | Sophisticated machinery to be procured for lake cleansing | | Jammu, Jan 26 Stressing on adoption of project approach for conservation of World famous Dal Lake with focus on enhancing its aesthetic splendor and water quality, Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog called for synergizing efforts for speedy restoration of its original and pristine glory. Mr. Phunsog was chairing a high level meeting of Coordination-cum-Monitoring Committee for Dal Nagin Lake Conservation and Management Programme convened here yesterday evening to take stock of pace of progress on conservation measures of Dak Lake. Commissioner Secretary Forests Mr. Atul Duloo, Vice Chairman LAWDA Mr. Asgar Samoon, Secretary Housing and Urban Development Mrs. Naseema Lankar, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Srinagar Mr. Sayeed Haq Nawaz, Joint Director Planning Mr. S. A. Qureshi, Chief Engineer UEED Mr. Untoo and Member Secretary PCB Mr. S. P. Arya besides, Director Environment and Forests, Government of India, Mr. Brijesh Sika and expert from JNU New Delhi Mr. Brij Gopal attended the meeting. After holding threadbare discussion on various issues the meeting authorized LAWDA to go ahead with the modifications necessary in Detailed Project Report of Alternate Hydro Energy Centre (AHEC), Roorki as per site requirements within the over all cost of project. It was decided that Divisional Commissioner Kashmir will finalize land acquisition cases required for installing Pump Stations at Abi Gorapora, Daultabad and Nagin. Road cutting permissions and matters relating traffic diversion required for laying sewers at Nagin, Habak and Nishat would also be sorted out by him. A comprehensive report detailing rehabilitation of Dal dwellers and removal of land masses from within the lake would also be submitted to Central Planning Department. The meeting decided to constitute a scientific committee with experts from Government of India for identifying the causes of formation of Azola which would work out suggestions for containing its menacing growth. Possibility of removing Azola and its use for duck and poultry farming would also be explored. For procuring sophisticated lake clearing machines the meeting decided to seek expert suggestions from Union Ministry of Environment and Forests regarding type, design and suitability of equipment. Earlier, Vice Chairman LAWDA Mr. Asgar Samoon gave a detailed account of conservation measures of the lake and progress achieved.
