Omar's remark over reshuffle irks ally | Cong leaders call on high command | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 11: In order to register resentment over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's remarks with regard to impending reshuffle in the cabinet two days back, the J&K Congress leaders including some ministers called on party president Sonia Gandhi today at New Delhi and conveyed to her such statements by NC leadership were becoming cause of growing resentment within the Congress cadres. Sources said the Congress leaders who left for New Delhi on Tuesday evening first met Mohan Prakash, in charge J&K affairs and expressed concern the way coalition's alliance partner NC is conducting itself with the ally and continuing to play dominant role in the functioning of the government as also in certain political decisions which matter equally to both the parties. Sources said even though a number of Congress leaders from J&K, including some functionaries from Kashmir are camping in New Delhi to register their presence in front of the party high command, only three leaders today met Sonia Gandhi and discussed with a host of issues concerning J&K. Apart from J&K Pradesh Congress Committee president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz, Health Minister Sham Lal Sharma , MLC and chief spokesperson of the party Ravinder Sharma called on the party chief today. While there are leaders who have been shuttling between the state and Union capital ahead of possible reshuffle and expansion exercise for apparent reasons, today's meeting of some senior leaders with the party chief assumes significance. Sources said she is said to have assured that reshuffle as also the expansion exercise would happen and also hinted at some possible changes in the existing face of the cabinet. Congress' concern is being seen in the face of the recent remark by Chief Minister Omar Minister Omar Abdullah that there is no imminent move with regard to reshuffle or expansion, something which Congress leadership at the local level has now been asserting for some time. Pertinent to mention here is that in the high level meeting early this year between Congress high command and Congress president on the occasion of completion of three years of tenure of coalition with Omar Abdullah in chair, it was the NC high command which had requested Sonia Gandhi to defer the move of reshuffle and expansion as would amounted to some problems within the NC , there being many contenders for the lone vacancy that would be occupied by ruling party. Even though Congress high command obliged NC high command, but sources said it is in no mood to defer the exercise any more. |
