Decks cleared for cabinet expansion, reshuffle | Cong to re-induct Saroori, NC clears Mir Saifullah | | Bashir Assad Jammu, Apr 11: Though belated, decks have finally been cleared for the long-awaited expansion cum reshuffle of the state council of ministers in Omar Abdullah led coalition government. The National Conference -Congress coalition government headed by Omar Abdullah has finally removed all impediments and stage is all set for cabinet expansion/reshuffle. Informed sources said NC had decided to induct MLA Kupwara Mir Saifullah against its only vacant slot while Congress has given nod to re-induction of MLA Inderwal GM Saroori and MLA Dooru Ghulam Ahmad Mir to fill up its two vacant slots. Peerzada Muhammad Sayed who was divested of the Education portfolio recently is likely to be given Roads and Buildings department. Pertinently Congress has two vacant berths in the cabinet while the NC has one. Sources also said that Congress high command has conveyed its decision to the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Sources also said expansion cum reshuffle is likely to take place any time in the first week of May if notification to the local body elections was not issued, otherwise the expansion will be effected soon after the elections to the local bodies are over by end of May or in first week on June. Besides inducting Saroori, Mir Saifullah and G A Mir into the cabinet, sources said, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is also likely to reshuffle some important portfolios among the existing senior cabinet ministers. Sources said that Mir Saifullah is likely to replace Ali Muhammad Sagar as Rural Development Minister while Sagar will continue to hold the charge Law and Parliamentary Affairs and G M Saroori is likely to get Education Department presently lying with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. Saroori was sacked in 2011 on charges of impersonation, CBI was investigating the allegations which has found nothing against him in the report. Sources said that Peerzada Muhammad Sayed is likely to get R&B portfolio while any one of the Congress ministers holding more than one portfolio will be divested of one portfolio to accommodate G A Mir. However, sources said that chances of dropping "non-performers" from the cabinet are very bleak given their proximity with the leadership of their respective parties. Sources said the equation is so delicately poised that dropping a minister from the State cabinet could cause major problems for both the Congress and the NC. But, they will be divested of the important ministries and will be given some insignificant portfolios as and when the cabinet expansion takes place. |
