A wrong number was dialed and she was hooked to her life partner
Tale of a missing Kashmiri girl
1/26/2007 9:19:12 PM
Jammu, Jan 26
A Kashmiri Muslim woman, who was said to be missing from Srinagar, has entered into a wedlock with a Hindu boy. The wedding ceremony, according to records produced by the couple before the court of the subjudge, Kathua, was solemnized in the Arya Samaj temple at Patiala on January 16.
In order to avoid any inconvenience caused to them by the parents of the boy and the girl the couple had moved an application before the court of the subjudge,Kathua pleading that they, being major, had entered into the wedlock out of their sweet will and consent and as such prayed for an injunction against the defendants so that no interference was caused to the couple by forcibly removing the girl from the lawful custody of her husband.
As per the application moved by the counsel for the couple the name of the girl was Shabana Yusuf Sofi daughter of Sh.Mohd. Yusuf Sofi R/O of Hazratbal Srinagar who had, after marrying Sandeep Kumar Verma S/O of Sh. Ashok Kumar Sharma R/O Harsdath Gagwal Tehsil Hiranagar in Kathua, adopted Hinduism and had been christened as Shivani.
After hearing the arguments of the petitioners and the defendants the subjudge Kathua,in his verdict said that “civil rights of the petitioners are under invasion from the defendants and if the same are not ,protected from said interference/invasion, the petitioners shall be put to the irreparable loss and great hardship besides multiplicity of proceedings which cannot be compensated in terns of money.”
The court observed that “there is specific bar from granting said interim relief to the petitioners as they both are living as husband and wife and their marital status can be protected by grant of interim injunction for which all the three cardinal principles are fulfilled here.” The court allowed the present application exparte in favour of the petitioners.
The court ordered that defendants are restrained from causing any interference in the marital status of the petitioners or removing the plaintiff from the lawful custody of the husband till next date of hearing fixed for January 31,2007.
According to Shabana and Sandeep, a wrong linkup on the mobile resulted in a love affair between “us.” They said for a number of months we went on talking to each other on telephone. Ultimately “we decided to marry.” The girl was asked to reach Jammu where Sandeep would pick her up. Once the two met in Jammu, it was love at first sight, and the two decided to leave for Punjab. First of all they solemnized their marriage in an Arya Samaj temple and after filing an application in the court of the sub judge at Kathua the couple moved to Amritsar and other towns in Punjab to escape being harassed by their parents. Judged from their body language both Shabana and Sandeep seem to be happy. Worried over their fate, Shabana had also appealed to their parents saying that "humey jeeney do”.
