Kashmir Club seals berth in semis

JAMMU, Apr 12: Kashmir Cricket Club (KCC) today sealed berth in semifinals, while Challenger Cricket Club made it to the quarterfinals of the ongoing 3rd Rajiv Gandhi Memorial T20 Cricket Tournament, organized by Young Star Cricket Club at MA Stadium, here. In the quarterfinals, KCC trounced Singh Cricket Club (SCC) Akhnoor by 33 runs in a good contest. After winning the toss and batting first, KCC scored a formidable total of 161 runs for the loss of five wickets in the allotted 20 overs.
The opening pair of Zeeshan and Puneet Wattal began the innings in style by hitting flurry of boundaries overs to make it 37 for no loss in first four overs. However, Sham Singh plotted a sudden collapse by scalping three important wickets in the fifth over to make it 38 for three in five overs. Then middle order batsman Satish came to rescue of Kashmir Club by playing a gem of an innings of unbeaten 70 runs and sending the rival bowlers on a leather-hunt. He hit nine boundaries in his 48-ball knock. Aman played a cameo of 23 runs in just eight balls by smashing five fours. Puneet (18), Zeeshan (17) and Rahul Mussa (16) were the other notable contributors. Sham Singh bagged three wickets, while Dilawar and Chandan claimed one wicket each.
In reply, SCC Akhnoor lost wickets at regular intervals and the whole team managed to score 128 runs in 20 overs, thus lost the match by 33 runs. Sunny (28), Dilawar (27) and Sumit (15) were the main contributors from SCC Akhnoor. Rohit Sharma was pick of the bowlers for Kashmir Club, who took three wickets, while Pankaj bagged two and Puneet and Kuldip one wicket each. Satish of Kashmir Cricket Club was adjudged man of the match for his fabulous batting performance. Earlier, Challenger Cricket Club trounced Kabir Cricket Club easily by 72 runs in the first match of the day. Electing to bat first after winning the toss, Challenger Club sailed on superb half-centuries by Rakesh Koul and Sahil Bhalwal to set a respectable target of 168 runs for the rival team in stipulated 20 overs by losing five wickets in the process. Rakesh smashed 56 runs in 42 balls with the help of four well-timed boundaries and one six, while Sahil hit 54 runs in 41 balls including four delectable boundaries. Randeep also contributed 18 runs to the total. For Kabir Club, Kala took two wickets, while Raju, Narrotam and Pritam claimed one wicket apiece. Kabir Club, in reply collapsed at a paltry total of 95 runs in 18 overs, thus lost the match by a big margin of 72 runs. Pritam (25), Raju (20) and Anmol (12) were the main contributors. Prashant was pick of the bowlers for Challenger Club, who captured 3 important wickets, while Ashu, Sumit, Manjeet and Sahil Bhalwal claimed one wicket apiece. Sahil Bhalwal was declared man of the match for his all-round performance.
The matches were officiated by Rajinder Singh and Vijay as umpires and Sohail acted as the scorer, while the tournament is being organized by Young Star Cricket Club under the supervision of Chaman Lal, former Corporator, Ankush Abrol, Rajesh Dhar, Vikram Singh and Shashi Pal, organizing secretary.
