| Sham reviews arrangements for Baisakhi festival at Akhnoor | | | AKHNOOR, Apr 12: Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma today reviewed the arrangements for annual Baisakhi Mela to be held on April 13 at Akhnoor. He visited the Mela site at Jia Potha Ghat at the right bank of the River Chenab and took stock of the arrangements put in place by the district administration. He issued instructions to the administration to make elaborate arrangements to facilitate the people at the Mela site as also to perform the Sandhya Aarti by the devotees at the River Chenab at the culmination of Mela. He also directed the concerned officers for ensuring proper sanitation, drinking water, electricity, security and sitting arrangements for the people at the Mela site. The Minister stressed the need for maintaining close coordination between various departments to make the festival a grand success.
It may be mentioned that the Baisakhi Mela like other parts of the country also celebrated in Akhnoor annually with lot of fanfare and larger participation of people from different parts of the State. The rich Dogra culture and heritage of Akhnoor is showcased in the Mela and artists from different regions exhibit their talent. The Tourism Department in collaborations with other organizations organizes Melas at different places in Jammu division.
