MIER holds extension lecture on 'ecosystem crisis' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 12 : MIER College of Education organized an extension lecture on 'Ecosystem Crisis'- a growing concern for Green India Mission. The lecture was organized by the Environment Unit of the college. The resource person was Dr. P.L. Koul OSD, MIER. The lecture was attended by the staff and students of B.Ed & B.Ed. Special Education (MR). In the welcome address, Dr Annie Koul, of B.Ed. Deptt., introduced Prof. Koul, as a scientist, who has achieved high laurels in his area and contributed a lot in promoting growth in various spheres of environment. He has been the founder Professor & Head of the Division of Pathology as well as Principal, Dean, Controller of examinations at Gujarat University. He is a recipient of many awards and holds many degrees.Dr Koul while making his deliberations said that human activity has altered the entire ecosystem. He remarked that plants, animals, water bodies etc. are essential for the maintenance of our ecosystem. In ancient times trees were worshipped as gods which helped their conservation. He quoted the famous saint Hazrat Sheikh Nur-ud-din, that if you have plenty of trees, then it would be easy to get food. He also acquainted the audience about the importance of wild animals, which are the mirror of the environment. He threw light on the effects of degenerating ecosystem and called upon the youth to join hands to make the biosphere safe, pollution free and environment friendly. A Formal vote of thanks was presented by Monika Bajaj, Incharge Environment Unit. Sanjana Bhatt comperedthe programme with great enthusiasm and involvement. |
