Inter-zone sports meet of J&K Police concludes
Armed zone retains overall championship trophies

JAMMU, Apr 12: Armed Zone maintained their supremacy by retaining both overall championship trophies in both men and women sections in the four-day inter-zone sports meet of Jammu and Kashmir Police which concluded with the holding of valedictory function at Gulshan Ground, here today. Jammu zone remained runners up in both the categories. Training zone remained third in men and women sections though they were far behind from winners in points tally.
Earlier, Armed zone made a clean sweep winning all the trophies in men's team events. However, in women Intelsect zone won the volleyball title while Armed zone excelled in other six events.
Earlier, in the 100 mts race, Ct. Gurpreet Singh of Intelsect Zone bagged gold while Ct. Jai Kumar of Training and Ct. Shabir Kumar of Armed Zone remained second and third respectively. The remaining team event of tug of war, Armed Zone emerged winner in both the finals beating their counterparts from Jammu zone.
In Gazetted Officers (GOs) events, Sourav Prashar bagged singles title in badminton. Played with Pawan Parihar, he also bagged doubled trophy. The lawn tennis final was won by Sajad Khalid beating Sanjay Kotwal while karanveer Singh clinched the table tennis trophy after he defeated Atul Sharma in final. In women's GOs event, Rajni Sharma bagged badminton trophy outplaying Rano Kundal in the final.
In the valedictory function, Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand was chief guest while Minister of State for Home, Nissar Ahmed Wani was guest of honour. Both these special invitees gave away winners and runners-up trophies as also other individual prizes.
Earlier, chairman of the organising committee, Director General of Police (DGP), Kuldeep Khoda presented detailed report of the sports meet in his welcome address. A host of senior serving and retired police officers were among those prominent persons present in the closing function.
