| Historic Devika Baisakhi Mela inaugurated | | | Early Times Report
UDHAMPUR, Apr 13: The District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, P.K Pole accompanied by MLA, Udhampur, Balwant Singh Mankotia and DIG, Udhampur- Reasi Range, Jagjit Kumar today inaugurated 3-day Historic Devika Baishaki Mela on the bank of holy rivulet in Udhampur town this morning. Speaking on the occasion, DDC extended his warm and good wishes to the people on this auspicious Baisakhi day and hoped that the festival would be celebrated with fervour and gaiety. District administration has made elaborate arrangements for the smooth conduct of the Mela like uninterrupted power, safe drinking water, sanitation, medicare, Police Control Room, assistance booth and security have been made at the mela site beside various departments like Agriculture, Horticulture, Photo Exhibition by Information Department, Health, Sheep, Apiculture, Handicraft, Handloom and Animal Husbandry have put up their departmental stall to educate the masses about the various state and centrally sponsored schemes especially for socio economic upliftment.
Number of temporary sweet shops, toy shops and other eatable corners by the locals as well as outside vendors were the main attraction for the general public visiting the mela site. District Information Center Udhampur would also arrange cultural programme and film shows based on folk culture during the mela. The 3-day Baisakhi mela would culminate with free style wrestling match in which number of wrestlers from within and outside the state are expected to participate. |
