| Speed up Srinagar-Kargil-Leh NH restoration: JK govt to BRO | | | JAMMU, Apr 13: The Jammu and Kashmir government has asked Border Road Organi sation to accelerate the restoration work of Srinagar-Kargil-Leh national highway to ensure that the vital route was opened to the public at the earliest. "The State government has asked BEACON (a wing of BRO) authorities to accelerate restoration work along the 420-km-long Srinagar-Kargil-Leh national highway to ensure that the vital road was opened for people at the earliest," the Transport Minister, Qamar Ali Akhoon. said at a high-level meeting of civil administration and BEACON authorities here. The meeting discussed measures to explore the possibility for opening up this important highway, that was closed last December after heavy snowfall at Zojila pass and adjacent areas.
The Minister also urged the BEACON authorities to press more men and machinery into service so that the only link road to Kargil and Leh could be opened soon. - |
