JKP XI, Kashmir Cricket Club enter semis | Baisakhi Premier League T20 Cricket Cup | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 14: Defeating their respective rivals by convincing margins in the quarterfinal matches today, Jammu Kashmir Police (JKP) XI and Kashmir Cricket Club sealed berth in the semifinals of the ongoing Baisakhi Premier League T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police Department in collaboration with Simula Sports Club and J&K State Sports Council at MA Stadium, here. In the first match, Kashmir Cricket Club drubbed star-studded JK Media XI by 32 runs in a low scoring match. Winning the toss and electing to bat first on a slightly damp surface due to over-night rains, Kashmir Cricket Club managed to score 115 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 5 wickets. Shahbaz Ahmed (24), Muddasir (21), Zeeshan Ahmed (20), Satish (18) and Aman (15) were the main contributors. Manjeet Singh, Vivek Singh and Sahil Bhalwal claimed one wicket each for JK Media XI. JK Media XI, while chasing had no answer to superb bowling display by Kashmir Club bowlers supported by extraordinary fielding and bundled out for a meagre total of 83 runs in 16.4 overs. The match by Sumit (17), Pardeep Bali (14) were the only two batsmen to cross double figure mark, however Vivek Singh and Rakesh Koul chipped in 9 runs each. Left-arm spinner Kuldip was the wrecker-in-chief, who took 4 important wickets by conceding 23 runs in his 4 overs, while another left-arm spinner Rohit Sharma and speedster Muddasir captured 2 wickets each. The highlights of the match were the three dismissals made by cover fielder Rahul Mussa via run-outs and a breach of an in-swinging delivery bowled by Muddasir to uproot the stumps of in-form batsman Rakesh Koul, which changed complexion of the game. Muddasir was adjudged man of the match for his all-round show. In another quarterfinal match played today, JKP XI thrashed JK Bank XI by 9 wickets in a one-sided contest. Chasing a low total of 83 runs, JKP XI sailed on a superb half-century by skipper Rajesh Gill to surpass the target in just 9.5 overs by losing one wicket to win the match easily by 9 wickets. Gill scored 50 runs off 36 balls including 9 boundaries, while Akshay Khajuria contributed valuable 20 runs to the winning cause. Earlier, JK Bank XI bundled out for paltry 81 runs, with Ajay (24), Ranbir (18) and Rajesh Sumbria (15) being the main contributors. For JKP XI, Rajesh Gill was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 wickets, while Showket and Joginder bagged 2 wickets each. Showket was most economical of these three bowlers. Rajesh Gill was declared man of the match for his outstanding performance. In another match played today, Aircel XI defeated Bharti Infratel XI by 65 runs in an easy contest. Batting first, Aircel XI scored 135 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Anand played a power-packed innings of 62 runs in just 29 balls including 10 boundaries, while Sumit and Sunil contributed 17 and 14 runs to the total respectively. For Infratel XI, Shakeel took 2 wickets, while Sourav, Gourav, Sunny and Unique claimed one wicket apiece. Bharti Infratel XI, in reply collapsed at 70 runs in 12.5 overs, thus lost the match by 65 runs. Sourav was the only batsman to cross double figure mark and scored 21 runs, while Gourav The matches were officiated by Arun Sharma, Sadiq Hussain, Amit Sharma and Yogesh, while the tournament is being held under the overall supervision of Dilbag Singh, IGP Jammu. |
