Fire Service Week observed

Jammu, Apr 14: Fire Service Week (FSW) is observed throughout the out the country every year from 14th to 20th April toaware public about fire prevention and precautionary measures. The Fire and Emergency Services (FES), J and K is also observing FSW and a various programmes are being launched throughout the week for mass public awareness.
14th April was observed in State to commemorate those gallant firemen who laid their lives for safe guard of life and property of others during rescue and fire fighting. Commemoration parades were held at State, provincial and District levels, Wreaths were laid in memory of martyrs.
Main function was held at Fire and Emergency Hqrs Gandhi Nagar Jammu where DG, FES Dr G.A Bhat laid the wreaths.
Others officers who also laid wreaths include Joint Director R. K Hak, Director FES Er. R. SSdhi. Bhat also highlighted the ethos of 14th April, he emphasised upon all officers to make elaborate arrangement on the programme at all levels for creating awareness especially in Industrial establishments, schools/colleges and other educational institutions.
He also advised officers to exhibit their best talent to achieve continuous success in safeguarding life and property of general masses and generate awareness regarding fire safety measures at district level in Industrial establishment and others institutions beside conducting essay competitions and debate on thisyear's slogan 'Smoke Management Saves Lives'. He also said that fire is the major disaster which brings death and destruction.
Bhat said after enhancing responsibilities from fire fighting to disaster management, the department has introduced latest hi- tech disaster management and a number of rescue equipments adding that officers of the department are being trained in fire fighting and disaster management techniques in leading training college of the country include National Fire Services College Nagpur.
Fire service Day was also observed at Fire and Emergency Headquarters Batmaloo where Joint Director R.T Dubey was the Chief Guest. Others who also laid wreaths include K.A Bazaz, Syed Shakeel Ahmad and other officers.
Smilarly, FSW was also organised at FES District Hqrs Udhampur where homage were paid to firemen who sacrificed their lives while fighting the fire. Wreathes were laid at Martyrs Memorial by Asst Director FES R.C Raina, Director FES Command Udhampur S.SKotwal and other personnel of the department.
A two minutes silence was also observed in the memory of the martyrs.
A fire tender fixed with posters and banners was also made to move through the roads of the town and general masses were made aware of fire preventive measures.
Similar commemoration parades/wreaths laying ceremonies were held at FES Katra/Reasi/Ramnagar and Chenani.
