Jammu, Apr14:Without waiting for the Government's final decision on amending the AFSPA the security forces have been asked to step-up vigil on the border.Official sources said that after having felt dismayed over the refusal of the US Government to mediate between islamabad and New Delhi on Kashmir agencies in Pakistan, including the Army and the ISI, have stepped up their plan of pushing groups of militants, equipped with sophisticated weapons, into Jammu and Kashmir.Official sources said that as a result of these plans the the number of milit ants brought to the launching pads across Kupwara, Keran, Poonch, Rajouri and R.S.Pora and Akhnoor sectors has gone up from about 450 to over 900 in recent days.Sources said that more than a score of militants have already sneaked into the Indian territory from across Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri and from across the 187-km long International Border in Jammu sector. Some of these militants are said to have carved out temporary hideouts in the forest belts of Kupwara Poonch, Rajouri and Kathua districts.Sources said that besides the police the paramilitary forces and the Army have been directed to constituted joint teams for carrying out sear ch operations within the border villages in order to ensure that no militant was able to carve out basis for others who were waiting for an opportunity to cross into Jammu and Kashmir. According to the official sources both the Army and the BSF authorities have restructured their anti insurgency and anti-infiltration operations not only in the border areas but also in various villages in the forst areas of Kathua, R.S.Pora, Akhnoor, Poonch and Rajouri besides the belts in Kupwara district. The security forces have been asked to review their requiremnts and in case they needed deployment of additional forces and more equipment weapons they could be conceded immediately. The sources said that the police authorities have been advised toect their forces to concentrate on the villages close to the border so that infiltrators were not able to find shelter in the houses of civilians. Reports said that groups of militants had started creating scare among the civilians in the border villages for helping them in finding shelter and food. In addition to this the troops, guarding the border, have been asked to intensify their round the clock patrolling on tthe entire LOC and the IB because agencies across the border had plans of sending large groups of militants into Jammu and Kashmir for making up for the loss of manpower tohe rebels operating in the state.
