Tainted Cops among Prez medal awardees

Jammu, Apr 15: The list of President's Medal awar-dees has shocked the people of the state. It has several tainted police officials in it. According to state home department sources as many as 241 criminal cases have been registered against the awardees during the past two decades.
The sources said that 206 cases have been filed against police officials under various laws in the past two years. A total of 100 cases were registered against them in 2010, 99 cases in 2011 and 7 during the current year. .
The tainted officials include a Senior Superintendent of Police A PMG awardee of 1999 who was jailed for fudging vital evidence in a murder case continues to be under detention.
Two PMG awardees of 2002 and 2003 respectively and a selection grade constable are also in the list. Similarly a DSP, who was awarded last year, also find place in the list. All of them are involved in the above mentioned case.
Another DySP, a gallantry award winner of 2005, an ASI awarded in same year, a Selection Grade Constable who received the PMG in 2004 were booked for their involvement in a fake encounter case. All of them, sources said, are supposed to receive the President's award.
An SSP, a head constable involved in murder cases will also be honoured by the president. The awardees include an IPS officer who was held for smuggling charas.
206 of the cases have been registered in the current regime. 48 cases have been filed in Jammu 31 in Doda, 23 in Ramban, 16 each in Srinagar and Udhampur 13 in Poonch and 9 each in Kulgam and Anantnag districts.
