Early Times report
JAMMU, Apr 15: Intensifying their agitation for enactment of law for protection of Kahsmiri Hindu Shriens and temples in Valley the Kahsmiri Pandits took out a procession here this afternoon from KP Sabha Ambphalla to Raj Bhawan. The protestors with banners and pla -cards in their hands were shouting slogans in support of the Religious Bill and demanded that till its passage an ordinance be brought in this regard. Undeterred by heavy down pour over 300 Kashmiri Hindus led by renowned Physician Dr K L Choudhary marched from KP Sabha to Governor House where a demonstration was held. The procession was organized by Pt. Prem Nath Bhat Memorial Trust the Apex body which has launched the ongoing movement for passage of Shrines and Temples Bill. Making a scathing attack on Government the KP leaders accused it of hoodwinking the community on the name of Bill. They disputed the Government claims that some social and religious organizations were creating obstacles in passage of the Bill and said that if Government has the will no power on earth can stop it.The KP leaders said that obstacles were also created in the formation of Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board but the then Government led by Mr Jagmohan showed the guts and he brought an ordinance and formed the Board for looking after the shrine.
On the same pattern the Government can bring a bill for Hindu shrines in Kahsmir Valley for their protection and management, they added. The speakers while expressing concern over vandalizing of Hindu shrines and other religious places in Valley said that land of many shrines has been encroached by the land mafia during the 22 years of turmoil. ``If Government is sincere in rehabilitation of Pandits in Valley then it nshould enact the law for protection of temples and shrines as this will act as a major Confidence Building Measure (CBM)'', they said adding that some socalled religious organizations as well as members of Dharmarth Trust were involved in illegal sale of Hindu religious properties in Valley and their action needs to be curbed once for all. They demanded that the Hindu Shrines Board be constituted on the pattern of Auqaf or Gurudwara Prabandhak Board.
