| Secret of country's progress lies in comprehensiveness of its constitution: Azad | | | JAMMU, JANUARY 26 Greeting the people on Republic Day eve while speaking at a function organized by Department of Information here last evening, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad highlighted the glorious aspects of Indian constitution. "Its inbuilt mechanism of taking care of every need of the country and its people has time and again withstood challenges successfully since its inception". Mr. Azad said it is due to the comprehensiveness of our constitution that country has progressed by leaps and bounds in all spheres and emerged as largest democracy in world, where every citizen enjoys equal rights and opportunities of progress. He said that India represents mosaic of diverse cultures, faiths, religions, beliefs, traditions and languages together with variegated topography. Such a unique situation required a unique constitution to represent aspirations of all the people, he added. "We are fortunate enough that our constitution possesses all these qualities and much more others", he said. "It is the caliber and effectiveness of the constitution of India that many countries like South Africa studied Indian constitution to base their constitutions on the guiding principles of our constitution". . He said that great leaders like former Prime Ministers Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru and Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri died in office whileas Mrs. Indira Gandhi and Mr. Rajiv Gandhi attained martyrdom when the country was under process of building and development yet the country stood firm and united to face these situations by the grace of constitution of India and these incidents did not shatter our basis. He said our constitution is the soul of Indian democracy providing unabated inspirations on all fronts to carry forward the country successfully and respectfully. "We are proud of our constitution and its greatness", Chief Minister expressed his joy. Earlier, Director Information and Public Relations Khawaja Farooq Renzu welcomed Azad and other dignitaries. He said Republic Day is our national festival and its celebrations requires every enthusiasm and fervour as such department is main partner of the celebrations throughout the state. It was the jam-packed gathering comprising of prominent citizens, intellectuals, writers, political and social activists, dignitaries and students present on the occasion.
