Separate Tribal Ministry for Gujjars in JK sought | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 16 : Alleging that funds under tribal sub plan were not being effectively used, a Gujjar community outfit today demanded creation of separate Tribal Ministry in Jammu and Kashmir. "We demand creation of separate Tribal Ministry in J&K state for the welfare of Gujjar community. The funds under tribal sub plan do not reach in time and often get lapsed because these are allotted at the fag end of financial year," state president Akhil Bhartiya Gujjar Mahasab a Eshfaq-ur-Rehman Poswal said while addressing a dharna in Poonch district. Scores of villagers led by Poswal staged a dharna in protest against the alleged injustice being meted out to weaker sections of the community of Tehsil Surankote. He alleged that the population under the BPL category is deprived of even basic amenities. Poswal said that state government should immediately take steps to mitigate the genuine problems of this area. "We have given three months' time to authorities to solve the issues. Otherwise a call for "Lal Chowk Chalo" would be given to protest at Lal Chowk, Srinagar to draw the attention of the government," Poswal said. Later, District Development Commissioner (DDC) Poonch visited the dharna site and assured the villagers that their demands will be taken up with the concerned authorities following which the protest was withdrawn. |
