Conversion of Nagdandi Ashram | NC-RSS nexus? | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Apr 16: In a situation where Governments in the State and at the Centre are claiming a significant improvement in the situation, the land grabbing, fraudulent deals and clandestine takeover of the Hindu properties in the Kashmir Valley is coming to the fore with alarming frequency. The sale deeds of the properties of Hindu Shrines of Jawala Bagwati at Khrew and Vaital Bhairav at Rainawari have come to the fore recently. In many such cases the Government apathy and lack of action is brazen enough to escape notice. But the complicity of the State Government led by National Conference to take over parts of the property of Sri Ramkrishna Mahasammelan Ashram, at Nagdandi, Achhabal, Kashmir, reveals a dangerous nexus between political forces which in the public realm are avowed adversaries. The Hindu Ashram at Nagdandi till now has been managed by a non- State subject, namely Bibek Roy who belongs to West Bengal. As per the records available with this investigating team, the manager in cohorts with the State Government has allowed the construction of a community hall on the premises of the Ashram for activities and objectives violative of that of Ashram. Bibek rendered a "No Objection Certificate" for a project which has been cleared by the then DC for "utilization of the facility for the local populace of the entire area…" A Hindu religious property has thus been rendered open to violation of its sanctity and purpose. Could the State Government, for example, conceive of any such project on the properties of Auqaf Islamia which controls and manages many Muslim places of worship? The manager has not sought any sanction from the trust which manages the Ashram. Nor did the Government ask for any authority letter on behalf of the trust from the manager of the Ashram who does not belong to the State. Stories doing rounds that "some shoddy deal behind the curtains has taken place" assume credibility as more facts came to light. That none other than Farooq Abdullah gave "verbal orders" as per the admission of Kokernag Development Authority when through an RTI the State Government was asked as to the source of authority for the 'utilisation of land (Hindu Religious Shrine- ashram in J&K)' and also the authority for permitting "land use within a Hindu Religious shrine that too in J&K" for creating public utilities like children park and tourist huts on the property of this prominent Hindu religious place. The questionable intent of the entire deal comes to the fore when the State Government rechristens the Ram Krishen Mahasammelan Ashram as "Ziyarat Sharief Nagdandi" in its official correspondence. The State Government while describing the help rendered for the construction of road to the shrine says "Hon'ble MP Ali Mohd Naikoo provided Rs. 2.36 lakhs during 2003-2004 for the construction/improvement of link road Trahpoo to Ziyarat Sharief Nagdandi by debit to MPLADS grants." The investigations reveal further that Bibek Roy, the manager of the Ashram, has been receiving "patronage from the RSS high ups in Jammu and Kashmir." As per insider sources, the "lawyer pleading on behalf of the manager in the court is a known RSS/BJP endorsed by the RSS Pracharak for the region". The lawyer also has a "murky past while he was living in Rajouri where he was booked for molestation and rape and could only escape the clutches of law because the lady crossed over to POK and the case could not be pursued further". Why should NC Government deal with a non-State subjects and interfere and encroach upon a Hindu Religious Shrine? The sway of communal elements within the party is a known reality. Only the other day, as per reports, the office bearers of another Hindu body, Hindu Education Society, running some educational institutions in the State, informed their general body that "grant and aid of the institution could not be ensured unless they change the charter of the constitution of the body making the Chief Minister of the State as its Chairman." For doing so the office bearers perhaps wanted the clause which qualifies it as a minority institution to be dropped so that its minority character is decisively killed. In the case of Nagdandi Ashram this mindset has been employed with ruthless zeal. The alleged involvement of the RSS activists in such shoddy deals is also not a surprise. Out of the delegation of Kashmiri Hindus who met Hurriyat leaders recently, two have been the RSS designates who are part of the RSS lead initiatives on return. The RSS activists had campaigned for Sajjad Lone in the last Assembly elections. For quite some time the RSS hierarchy in Jammu and Kashmir has been following what could be termed as a "duplicitous line" on Kashmir. On one side being part of all compromise processes on Jammu and Kashmir and on the other side trying to maintain a public stance reiterating its traditional line. The takeover process of Nagdandi Ashram seems to be a sort of a deal between proclaimed adversaries who duped their respective constituencies. |
