Hindu bodies protest against 'curtailment' in Amarnath Yatra | Yatra curtailment aimed to appease separatist forces,hurt sentiments of Hindus | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Apr 16: Alleging government intentionally is hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community various Hindu organizations today jointly staged protest over 'curtailment' in the duration of annual Amarnath pilgrimage scheduled to begin from June 25. Meanwhile, reports said that similar protests were held at Rajouri, Poonch and Kathua also. Main protest was held outside the Press Club of Jammu in which protestors alleged that the Government has intentionally reduced the yatra duration thus hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community. Amid chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole' and anti government and SASB sloganeering the leaders of various Hindu and Social bodies including Vishva Hindu Parishad, Panun Kashmir, Shri Ram Sena, Bajrang Dal, Jammu West Assembly Movement etc demanded the reschedule of yatra dates. The protestors alleged that the government has intentionally reduced the yatra duration thus hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community with an aim to appease the separatist elements. Meanwhile, VHP, on April 5, in a press conference had already challenged the scheduled dates announ-ced by the government and is adamant on taking out the yatra from June 4. In a similar protest in Poonch VHP members took out a procession which passes from all the areas of main bazaar and culminated at Fort Poonch where VHP leaders addressed the gathering. Speaking on the occasion Nishu Gupta, District President VHP, said, "this government is deliberately creating this situation to hurt the religious sentiments of a community and VHP strongly condemned the attitude of government on this issue." "VHP will launch a nation-wide struggle against the injustice doled out to Hindu community, he added. Yet in another protest held at Kathua under the leadership of District president of VHP district Kathua Gian Singh Pathania and Senior leader of BJP Prem Nath Dogra protestors condemned the SASB's silence over the curtailment of Yatra. They said the decision was taken under the influence of politicians in order to appease their separatists masters and hurt at large to the entire Hindu community of the India. Meanwhile Vishaw Hindu Parishad (VHP) Sunderbani unit staged a protest here today against curtailment of Shri Amarnath Yatra. Led by VHP Prabag President Pritam Lal, a large number of VHP activists took out a protest march in front of Tehsil office Sunderbani. Amidst anti govt sloganeering and against SASB, the protestors alleged that every year government kick a new controversy regarding pious Amarnath Yatra and play with the religious sentiments of Hindus. They demanded immediate roll back of any decision regarding shortening of yatra and threatened of dire consequences of it in the future. They protestors also handed over a memorandum to Tehsildar Sunderbani demanding reschedule of duration of Amarnath Yatra. At the same time in a press conference addressed in Rajouri by VHP leaders Yugveer Gupta and Sushil Vaid, the VHP alleged said that govt and authorities once again have started creating a controversy at the time of annual Yatra without caring the religious sentiments of Hindus living across world. They also said that govt and SASB has admitted that they can just make arrangements for about 1000 plus yatris daily but has shortened duration of yatra to just 39 days and henceforth only 3 to 4 lakh yatri will reduce the pilgrimage. VHP also threatened adverse effects if govt will try to shorten the duration of yatra, they addd. |
