Accuse HC, Azad of indifference | Doda MLAs bat for cabinet berth | | Early Times report Srinagar, Apr 17: The Congress MLAs from Doda believe the party may lose its `grip' over the district if a representative from the area was not inducted in the state cabinet. The party high command including former Chief Minister and Union Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad has been informed of the dangers of ignoring the `important' district. Pertinent to mention the district has fetched five out of six assembly seats for the Congress but has no representation in the state cabinet. MLA Doda Abdul Majeed Wani while talking to a local news agency said that Congress may lose support in the region in case High command continued to ignore the 'aspirations' of the people of region. Interestingly, the strong worded statement has come at a time when Former Chief Minster and Union Minster Ghulam Nabi Azad who represents Doda in parliament landed in the state for a two day visit on Tuesday. Majeed who is considered close to Azad lashed out at congress top brass saying, they were not taking people's aspirations into account. "How long can you ignore voter's aspirations? These are the same people who have won you 5 out of 6 seats." Asserted Wani, adding that high command's disinterest in giving Doda a representation in the cabinet could destabilize congress base in the region. "Going by the ratio arrangement, Doda should have three ministers in the cabinet, said another MLA. He warned Azad and High Command of dire consequences for state congress and Coalition government in the state and said, "Why doesn't Party High command think of its future in the state." The Congress workers at the grass root level feel that the High Command was strengthening Omar Abdullah at the cost of its own existence, sources said. |
