JAMMU, Apr 17: Mountaineering Association of Jammu and Kashmir today released its annual calendar of activities for the year 2012-13. The annual schedule of domestic and zonal activities was made public by president of the Association, Home Secretary (J&K), BR Sharma. The calendar includes a prestigious mountaineering expedition to Matho Kangri ( 20430ft) in Ladakh besides 13 trekking expeditions in Kishtwar,Sonamarg ,Pahalgam, Zanskar and Leh in J&K and Chamba, Kangra and Manali areas of Himachal Pradesh, to be conducted by affiliated clubs of the Association. A unique feature of the calendar is holding of a three-day Adventure Film Festival at Jammu wherein world class adventure films in mountaineering, rock and sport climbing, skiing, white water sports and allied games shall be screened. Furthermore, the Association has planned to organize Udhampur, Reasi, Jammu, Rajouri, Samba and Kathua district besides J&K State Sport Climbing competitions in the month of April and May. The Association shall also conduct a number of coaching camps in sport climbing at Sprawling Buds School, Jammu and MNDP School, RS Pura for beginners and at Indian Mountaineering Foundation, New Delhi for experienced climbers. The Association intends to host the 1st Junior North Zone Sport Climbing Championship in September, and the proposal is under consideration with IMF North Zone Committee and the J&K State Sports Council. Prominent among others present included general secretary, Ram Khajuria, Yogeshwar Kumar (vice-president), Dr. Sonam Angchuk, MD Naqqash, Rakesh Goswami and Sonam Sidharth. |
