`Mauled' NC fails to react to Interlocutor's report | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Apr 17: The National Conference has not reacted officials to the Interlocutors statement on autonomy. The only reaction came from Dr Baig who, while talking to a news channel said the report had vindicated the stand of the separatists. The report shocked the NC by stating that restoration of autonomy would create a Constitutional crisis in the State. The report that New Delhi's nominated Interlocutors had submitted to the Union Home Minister for his consideration in October last year is still awaiting consideration by him. It is widely believed that the frustrated Interlocutors leaked the report to the press last week for obvious reasons. Interestingly the National Conference had repeatedly requested the separatists to meet the team. The appointment of the Interlocutors had dealt a severe blow to Chief Minister's one man panel headed by the Finance Minister (Rather Panel) that was constituted to study Justice (Late) Sageer's recommendations on restoration of autonomy. The Panel was directed to submit its report within three months. The panel has completed 18 months and the report is still awaited. A question arises? Now that the Interlocutor's report has come to fore will it have any bearing on the Rather panel? Political experts believe the leak had rendered the Panel infructious. Justice Sageer headed one of the working groups formed by the Prime Minister in 2006. Sageer's report was considered a victory by the National Conference although it made only a passing reference of autonomy. National Conference, which, according to political circles has survived on hollow slogans from the very beginning once again, started agitating the AFSPA. The issue was almost forgotten. Only a passing reference of the legislation was made in the budget session of the assembly. But after the leak, the issue has come live again. A `mauled' NC is undecided. It even forgot to react officially to the leak. How, it tackles the situation in the coming days remains to be seen. |
