World Heritage Day function celebrated in Srinagar | IGP advised students to develop taste for heritage and its preservation | | early times report Srinagar, Apr 18 : Inspector General of Police Mr. SM Sahai advised the students that while they should aspire for keeping pace with latest advancements in the fields of science and technology, at the same time they should also develop taste for the heritage and its preservation.IGP Kashmir was specking as the Chief Guest on a function organized by the Directorate of Tourism on World Heritage week at SKICC, Srinagar. Inspector General of Police Mr. SM Sahai while addressing the students of various educational institutions said that the penchant of the students nowadays towards new age technologies have attributed to their attitude of redundancies towards our heritage. He said that the perseverance of heritage should not be misinterpreted as only to preserve old buildings but it is also about culture, traditions, language as well as cuisine. IGP stressed upon the students to take up the subjects of Humanities besides science as that will give them better understanding of significance of preservation of heritage. IGP said that JK police in its bid to preserve the heritage building of District Police Lines put a lot of effort in its renovation keeping the replica of traditional building in its original form. Director Tourism Mr. Farooq Ahmad Shah, Ex DG Tourism Mr. Saleem Beigh, Principal of Institute of Hotel Management, Srinagar also attended the function.
