EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Apr 18: To mark World Heritage Day celebrations, Tree Talk enthusiasts under the stewardship of O P Sharma and Dr Taran Singh joined hands to mark the occasion to reflect on tree heritage related tree traditions and emphasized conservation of old Mango, Peepal, Arjun, Kadamb, Maulsari, Khirni, Devdar, Sinnu, Champ and Banyan trees in and around Jammu . HOD Botany from Parade college focused on old heritage trees of Mushak Kapoor allied to Dalchini saying that old Kapoor trees planted by Dogra Kings reflect their antiquity, kapoor trees seen planted in Poonch House Jammu and Ayurvedic Hospital complex are more than 100 years old and now need protection and conservation. Newly selected IFS Associate Professor Botany in Parade college Preeti Bhandari hailing from Village Kaleeth near Akhnoor emphasized need of tree familiarity for the city children who do not get face to face encounter with wild trees like Jiyopota, Soha-njana, Kaim, Palaah, Thubb, Rajain, Kikkar etc. She highlighted importance of Jiyopota tree and reflected on its medicinal antiquity and historical significance of the spot Jiyopota ghat located at Akhnoor.
