| LA session starts with furore over Mir’s resignation | | | SRINAGAR, AUG 01: Second day of the assembly session in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday started with leaders from the opposition National Conference raising the issue of the resignation of the chairman of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC), retired Justice Ali Mohammad Mir. It is in place to mention here that SHRC, chairman tendered his resignation to the Governor on Monday. Senior National Conference leaders, Ali Mohammad Sagar, Shariefudin Sharik, and opposition leader Abdul Raheem Rather, entered the house raising slogans against the government. These leaders raised slogans like ‘Human rights sarkar hai hai’. These leaders were joined by Panther’s party MLA, Balwant Singh in sloganeering. Speaker of the legislative assembly, Tara Chand tried pacifying the NC leaders. However, NC members told speaker that they have asked for the debate in the house over the resignation of the SHRC, chairman. Speaker told the NC members that their request cannot be entertained, as their request reached late to the speaker. NC members were not convinced with the explanation rendered by the Speaker and they continued with their protest. However, after sometime Deputy Chief Minister, intervened and told the speaker that government is ready to answer the question related to human rights and security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir. Speaker later told the NC members that both the issues would be discussed in the afternoon session.
