Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 18: Notwithstanding boycott by some key members of the Kashmiri Pandit Committee, Apex Committee meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah this evening . Even though no new decision was taken in the meeting , the government came up with reaffirmations on certain key issues that matter to the community.
In the meeting that lasted for over three hours, what can be seen as only fresh commitment was the assurance from Chief Minister that Shrines and Temples Bill would be taken up by the government in the next cabinet meeting and an ordinance would be brought for this piece of legislation. . Sources said almost all the members present in the meeting voiced concern over delay in making a law for protection of religious places in Valley upon which the Chief Minister gave this assurance and also reiterated that his cabinet would discuss the Bill as soon as possible before finalizing the necessary legal provisions . Recommendations would also be sent to the Governor for his assent and early approval so that the law could be enacted as the earliest.
Sources also said that the Chief Minister also reassured enhancement of cash relief the migrant families living in camps and outside the camps is in pipeline and almost an approved decision by the Union government. It was only a couple of days before the government would make announcement , chief Minister assured to the members who were present in today's meeting. In one more vital decision that impacts the youth of the community the government assured that 3000 more jobs would be given to the community youth soon besides clearing backlog of 1500 vacancies. He is learnt to have assured that government would also consider relaxation in age wherever necessary. In what could be seen as the fresh proposal from the government to have increased inter community interactions at the level of children, the government has mooted the idea of sending children born post migration (school level) to be sent for Kashmir Darshan so that they get an idea of Kashmir, its culture and also interact with their counterparts from Srinagar.
